Adaptive strategies are more constructive. Cognitive reappraisal involves reframing a situation to alter its emotional impact—for example, seeing a job rejection not as personal failure but as a redirection toward better opportunities. Mindfulness teaches individuals to observe emotions without judgment, reducing the impulse to react automatically. Acceptance-based approaches encourage experiencing emotions fully without trying to change them, which paradoxically often reduces their intensity.
